Dusters Special: Cropdusters claim the North Division and head into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed!

As Cade Walter's third home run cleared the fence Wednesday night, time seemed to stand still.

The effort this Cropdusters team had poured into the entire summer had come down to this moment. As Walter rounded the bases, with Big Train pitcher Kyzer Smith barking in his direction, a realization began to sink in for everyone watching.

The Cropdusters were about to win the division.

When Matt Russell took the mound in the ninth and shut down any remaining hope of a Bethesda comeback, and Owen McNeal completed the final out on a dropped third strike, that realization became reality.

After five years, the Olney Cropdusters had finally etched their name into Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League history, capturing the North Division title for the first time in franchise history while also securing the league's No. 1 overall seed.

The journey to this moment had been anything but easy.

Since joining the Ripken League, the Cropdusters have lived in the shadow of the Bethesda Big Train. Some have even compared the rivalry to Yankees-Red Sox, with one team consistently commanding the spotlight while the other fought to earn respect.

No one will overlook the Cropdusters any longer.

Wednesday night's victory announced to the rest of the league that Olney has become a legitimate championship contender. While many outside the organization may view this season as a surprise, it never felt that way inside the clubhouse. The coaches, players, interns, staff, host families and fans believed in this team from the very beginning, and that belief never wavered.

From the first workouts in late May through the final regular season game, this team built a culture rooted in chemistry, resilience and belief. Wednesday night was the perfect reflection of who the 2026 Cropdusters have become.

In what was a bullpen game, left-handers Ross Lindsey and Kyle Rogers, along with right-handers Ben Jones, Sean McCabe and Matt Russell, combined for nine outstanding innings while striking out eight batters.

The offense matched that effort.

Despite falling behind multiple times throughout the game, the Cropdusters never lost their confidence or determination. Walter's home runs kept Olney within striking distance before Pat Gozdan delivered a game-tying two-run single. Then came the unforgettable moment—a towering three-run home run by Walter that capped his Cropdusters career and sent the home crowd into celebration.

The signs had been there all season. This team had consistently shown its ability to compete, respond and win together. Wednesday night's victory over Big Train erased any remaining doubt, cementing the Cropdusters as the Ripken League's No. 1 seed heading into the postseason.

Now, the page turns.

The celebration can wait because the job isn't finished.

This Saturday, the Cropdusters will host Game 1 of the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League Semifinals at First Responder Field as they begin their pursuit of the 2026 league championship. Four more wins stand between Olney and the first league title in franchise history.

The regular season belongs to the Cropdusters.

Now comes the opportunity to finish what they started.
